Lord of Greens Norton

1/ Before the Norman Conquest, King Edward the Confessor was Lord of the Manor
of Greens Norton and King William 1 the conqueror was the Lord of the Manor as
mentioned in the Domesday survey of 1086.

2/ The lordship of the Manor was held by the sovereign until the end of the twelfth
century when it was granted by King Richard 1 to Baldwin of Betun.

3/ Baldwin of Betun later became the Earl of Albemarle and the grant was later
confirmed by King John in a Charter dated 1194.

4/ The descent of the Lordship continued in that family until 1355 when Sir Henry
Green acquired the lordship and thereafter was held by his family until 1542 when
the said lordship was handed by An act of Parliament to the Honour of Grafton
and in 1552 it was granted to William Parr the Marquess of Northampton.

5/ In 1570 the Lordship reverted to the sovereign whereupon Queen Elizabeth 1
held it as did succeeding monarchs until King Charles 11 settled the Lordship
on his Queen Catherine and when she died in 1705, the lordship passed to the
Duke of Grafton and his family it remained until it was sold in 1988.

6/ The Title has passed to Mark Howard Alton who is the current freehold owner
since 2007.
